Case relates to an American citizen, “seized on American soil away from any recognized or traditional field of battle and held incommunicado for more than a year without any charge being filed against him, without any access to counsel, and without any right to challenge the basis for his detention before a United States judge or magistrate", as per "Amici's Interest" in brief.
Rumsfeld v. Padilla, 542 U.S. 426 (2004), was a United States Supreme Court case, in which José Padilla, an American citizen, sought habeas corpus relief against Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, as a result of his detention by the military as an "unlawful combatant."
The case was petitioned to the United States Supreme Court. The principal issue before the Court was whether the Congressional Authorization for Use of Military Force post September 11, 2001, gave the president the powers to detain a United States citizen under military custody by classifying the detainee as an "enemy combatant."

Material in this folder relates to DAF Sales, the Irish importer appointed by SAAB, and their request to be granted license to import SAAB cars built by the Swedish company in Belgium, and therefore within the European Economic Community (EEC). At issue is the total quota allowed for import of Fully-Built-Up Cars, the percentage allocated to them by Department of Industry and Commerce and the rights of DAF/SAAB under this system, since they need to factor in the dismantling and re-assembling operation to convert the steering wheel from Left Hand Drive, the only kind available from the Belgian plant, to Right Hand Drive for Irish use. A subsequent issue related to the change from import of cars through the Belgian plant, to direct import from Sweden from 01/07/1977 as a direct result of the newly established free trade between the EEC and Sweden. DAF Sales is known as Scanveco Limited in later documents in this file.
The file includes correspondence between DAF/Scanveco Ltd and the Department of Industry and Commerce 05/11/1973-30/03/1979; Mary Robinson (MR)'s own handwritten notes; correspondence between DAF and Department of Labour 25/11/1975-02/01/1976; several opinions of counsel (MR); correspondence between MR and DAF, 17/02/1976-16/01/1978; research material including list of registered importers; correspondence bet MR and Gerrard, Scanlon and O'Brien solicitors including in relation to fees 01/03/1976-03/12/1979; cutting 16/07/1979.
