Scope and content
Photocopy of typescript letter from 'June' [Brendan Duddy] to 'a chara' [Martin McGuinness]. Acknowledging that the republican movement is in their right not to give in to pressure on decommissioning, quoting from the Good Friday Agreement (par.20), but arguing strongly for taking a higher moral ground than the prevaricating other side, to allow for implementation of the new police force and a complete demilitarisation and arms-free society. Impassioned plea against weapons. (With a caption by [Éamonn Downey] referring to the original document, and entitling this 'Decommissioning and importance of time'. Explaining that markings in biro reflect those made by Duddy in his original typed version [POL35/555]).)
