Scope and content
Photocopy of a letter from Dáithí Ó Connell which appeared in Saoirse in January 1989 under the headline 'Wilson-I.R.A. talks 1972'. The letter was written in response to Irish Labour Party politician John O'Connell's book , Doctor John , and letters which appeared in the Sunday Press in response to its publication. John O'Connell played a role as intermediary in the 1972 talks between representatives of the Republican Movement and representatives of The British Government and also a role in the 1975 talks. Dáithí Ó Connell was a leading member of the Republican Movement who represented the movement in both set of talks. In the letter Ó Connell outlines that background to the 1972 talks and also what he viewed as the gains made by the Republican Movement from the talks.
