Scope and content

Personal letter from J Richardson, Etah, to Peter Freyer, relating to the 'never ending Rampur difficulty'. He refers to the 'very paltry fee' which the Rampur Council of Regency voted Freyer and gives his opinion as to who influenced the Lieutenant Governor to try and reduce this fee. 'The mean jealous feeling which the civilian element has all through shown in this case is contemptible.' He discusses the currency problem in India and his stay with the Pilchers. He writes that Pilcher is to succeed him and gives news of the movement of other medical men and friends, including Deane who was to treat the old Maharain of Balrampur but she died before he got there. He hopes to get 8 months leave from 18 September and to visit his son in Ceylon on his way back to England.
