Scope and content
Transcripts, abstracts, and photocopies of seven letters written to M. Hawkes of Omagh by his nephews Andrew Pauley and James and John Paul, Irish Protestant emigrants in the United States. Pauley wrote two letters in 1854 and 1855 from Philadelphia; James Paul wrote four letters from Le Claire, Iowa between 1873 and 1882; John Paul also wrote a letter from Le Claire in 1873.
Per Kerby A. Miller: 'The Pauley family was Presbyterian. The entire family, some 20 persons, emigrated all at once; three generations emigrated. The head of the family was 70, but he lived in the US for 20 more years. The author of this letter [Andrew] must be one of his sons.'
