Scope and content

This file consists of material relating to the The Workers’ Party policies on the Irish language, and the use of Irish in election publicity material. Also known as “Sinn Féin, the Workers’ Party / SFWP”

[Archivist’s Note: The original Sinn Féin party, founded in 1905, split in 1970 following a division within the party, with this new party forming the larger faction. Known as “Sinn Féin (Gardiner Place)” or “Official Sinn Féin” following the split, the party name was subsequently changed in 1977 to “Sinn Féin – The Workers’ Party”, and then to “The Workers’ Party” in 1982.]
