Scope and content
Transcripts of oral history interviews with Nell Scully and Gene and Eileen Maguire in 'An Oral History Of Irish Immigrants,' compiled by Robert H. Derham, University of California, Berkeley, 4 December 1976.
Per Derham: 'Nell Scully, age, fifty-one, lives in a residential area of San Francisco. She works in a residence for well-to-do senior citizens. Her husband has been a member of the Coast Gaurd and Merchant Marines. He is now a bartender. They have been married for twenty-six years and have two children. One is a Teamster, while the other is studying to be a nurse... ...Gene Maguire is a building inspector for the city of San Francisco. His wife, Eileen, and their three sons live in the Richmond district of that city. Eileen Maguire was born in the town of Tuam 4 January, 1928. Their farm in northern County Galway was small, barely large enough to feed her seven brothers and sisters. Her life in Ireland she described as fun, but that people there were pretty poor. Her opinions about Northern Ireland were especially interesting.'
