Scope and content

Chapter authored by Rónán Swan, project archaeologist for the Westmeath County Council Regional Design Office, that was part of the environmental impact statement regarding on the areas of the proposed corridors for a new alignment of the N6 road (now the M6 motorway) between Athlone and Kinnegad. Casey was commissioned by Swan to work on the project (see P164/1/1/21). Casey identified 110 sites of archaeological significance in the study area and notes that 3 sites will need to be avoided in order to be preserved. The chapter lists potential impacts on each of these sites along with Casey's opinion on recommended actions for each site (recording, monitoring, test excavation, or avoidance).
