Scope and content
Kerby A. Miller's transcripts and abstracts of selected letters from the Montgomery family papers held in PRONI, specifically focusing on eight letters written by William Montgomery in New Orleans to Joseph Searight in Philadelphia between 1848 and 1850. The Montgomery family were from Belfast and Portadown; Searight was a linen merchant. Much of the letters concern payment for orders and commenting on the linen industry in Ireland, although there are mentions of personal news as well. William Montgomery's letters are written while on business travel, per Miller, 'William Montgomery seems to be in partnership with his brother, Harford, and Robert Moore, and still lives in Portadown.'
