Scope and content

Application of Mikail Akyüz to the European Commission of Human Rights to file a case (referred to internally within the Kurdish Litigation Project as Case 27) against the Republic of Turkey regarding the persecution of the residents of Sincik/Çayırdere, Ergani District, Diyarbakır Province, including the murder and attempted murder of residents and destruction of properties and livestock during October and November 1992. The applicant notes that he is wanted by the Security Forces for allegedly fundraising for the PKK; Akyüz states that he collected money to fundraise for those injured when the van they were travelling in ran over a landmine placed by security forces. Akyüz also alleges that the mayor of Cermik authorised village guards from an adjacent village to kill residents of Sincik and other hamlets without fear of proceeding being opened against them.
