Scope and content

Transcripts and reproductions of 18 letters sent by members of the McCullough/McCullagh/Omer families. The majority of the letters are sent between Helen Conway Omer in Sioux City, Iowa and her cousin Edward McCullagh of County Tyrone between 1956 and 1964. Other authors include Ann McCullough in Tyrone writing to her son Mathew in Iowa in 1857, Matthew B. McCullough in Washington, D.C. writing to Delbert McCullough in Dubuque, Iowa, and Marie McCullagh in Dubuque writing to Edward. Much of the correspondence discusses establishing family ties and tracing genealogy. Also included is correspondence and information on the family provided by archivist R. Dudley Edwards of University College Dublin, who donated the letters and was a neighbour of Edward’s brother P.J. in Dublin.
