Scope and content

Photocopied pages from Hough, Cora M. and Emerson Capper, eds. (1921). Family History of James and Anne McCort: 1760-1921 ([unknown location]: Charles T. McCort), including transcript of two letters.
Per the text: 'As nearly as can be ascertained Hugh MacCourt, father of James McCort, subject of this history, was born in 1760, or 160 years ago, in the northern part of Ireland. His father was of Scotch ancestry and the name has since been modernized into its present form-McCort [...] Hugh MacCourt married Elizabeth Brooks, daughter of James Brooks of County Tyrone, Ireland, and sister of Henry Brooks, who, with his wife Jane came to America in 1819, bringing with them seven of their eight children [...] Hugh McCort, brother of James, had three sons and three daughters. His wife died in Ireland in 1846, and in 1849 he married Bessie Cassiday. There were no children to this marriage. In 1851 he came to America with his wife and two daughters, by his first wife, Margaret and Jane. Margaret married Samuel Long, father of Henry Arvine Long of Union Township; and Jane married William J. Carlysle, whose only son, Clifton Hugh Carlysle, resides in Canada. Hugh McCort (Black Hugh as he was known) came to America in 1839, after spending some time in Canada. He married Rebecca Runyan. Their three children were Granville, Mattie and Charles.'
