Transcript and reproduction of a letter written 26 July 1882 by Mary A. Burns of McDonald, Pennsylvania to a friend in Ireland. Per Alex McCloy in the attached 1978 donation letter: 'It was written by a maid who was employed here in my grandparents time. I remember when a kid, hearing dad tell about a woman who lived beside us, who used to go to the U.S.A. about every three or four years. She could not read nor write but had a great memory, so her two sisters would send her a ticket to go over there and tell them all the news about local events. She always called here and if we had any letters to post, she took them with her and posted them in Belfast. The 50 miles walk meant nothing to her.'
