Scope and content
This series primarily relates to three letters written by Mary Brown, a recent emigrant to New York City, from 1858-1859 to a Mary in Tomhaggard, County Wexford. The letters touch on Brown's journey to America, meeting family upon arrival in New York, her homesickness for Ireland and also enjoyable conditions in New York, reports on other emigrants from her hometown and requests for information on friends and family back home.
The series contains: Schrier's and Miller's typed transcripts of the letters; Miller's correspondence with colleagues; census research; a copy of 'An Account of the Baronies of Forth and Barcy in 1814' edited by Kevin Whelan in Journal of the Wexford Historical Society 11, 1986-7, pp. 14-32; and Miller's and Schrier's research notes.
