Desmond Egan born in Athlone in 1936. Teacher, publisher and poet. Poetry includes "Mindland" (1972); "Leaves" (1974), "Siege" (1978), "Woodcutter" (1978) "Athlone?" (1980) and "Collected Poems" (1983). Won the Muir Award in 1983 and the American Poetry Award in 1984. He also edited the Literary magazine Era and ran Goldsmith Press. Married to cookery writer Vivienne Abbott.
