File of manuscript and typescript letters and postcards from Seamus Heaney to John McGahern. The letters date from 1975 - 2005 and relate to personal and literary discussions. Included are eighteen letters, ten cards and postcards and two poems inscribed to the McGahern's, including "Catherine's Poem" and also "Ulster Twilight". The letters discuss various matters, from arranging for academic posts in the U.S., readings and events in Ireland and elsewhere, general comments on Irish writing
"It was one of the most enhancing times of my life" (Postcard, no date); "...to say how deeply the Granta "[The] Lanes" piece entered me" (12 Jan 2005), on dodging Bloomsday season (7 June 2001), McGahern's teaching at Colgate University, Heaney's own teaching work and related discussions.

Letters from Seamus O'Grady, Secretary to the Board for Extra-Mural Studies, UCG, in respect to payments for speaking at a writers' course and a talk to Cumann Éigse agus Seanchais.

Letters from Seán Ó Donmdháin, Rúnaidhe Priobhaideach, Oifig an Tánaiste, Tighthe an Riaghaltas, Baile Átha Cliath stating that the Tánaiste has searched both his offices and his house, but could not find a copy of the proceedings of the Árd-Fheis for 1918 [in Irish].

Correspondence between Sean T O Ceallaigh and Stiophán Bairéad. Seán T. Ó Ceallaigh was born in north inner-city Dublin and was active in the Gaelic League, becoming a member of the Governing Body in 1910 and the General Secretary in 1915. He went on to become Ceann Comhairle of the first Dail, He served as the Irish Republic's envoy to the peace talks at Versailles, seeking admittance. However, as France and Britain were allies this request was never going to succeed. He was later active in Fianna Fail, becoming the second President of Ireland, serving from 1945 to 1959.

Letters from Senator Joe O'Toole (and also Charlie McCreevy T.D., Minister for Finance) relating to efforts regarding pension payments from McGahern's time as a teacher.

Letters from Siobhán Ní Súilleabhán, Indreabhán to EÓT, thanking him for his invite and outlining some of her recent work. Also letter letting him know that she has passed on the poems to Daibhí Ó Coileáin [in Irish].

Letter from Siobhán Ní S[uilleabháin], Moyola Park, Galway, to Eoghan Ó Tuairisc and Rita congratulating them on their acclaim in An tOireachtas. Comments that she had a short story in the competition, and wasn't very happy with the judge's comments. Ends by wishing them a Happy Christmas [in Irish].
