He remembers lines of stockings hanging by the fire in Inishmaan in his only trip to the Aran islands in 1929. He states that he is finishing his article on cloth finishing that day, and thanks him for putting the information on napping and thickening at his disposal.

He also thanks him about the accounts of boiling the rushes to make strong rope. He also discusses the traditions of having ice-houses in the Dublin hills, used for bringing ice into the city. He states that they would be worth investigating.
