He comments that the information on the maker, James Mannin, is very interesting. He wonders if more could be found out on how he acquired the knowledge necessary for making the dial. He says that he would not be interested in getting the powder flasks. He also encloses a questionnaire on furze, saying that he hoped to build up a picture of the plant.

He asks for a list of articles that the weaver from Tuam could do. He states that he is anxious to find out about traditions etc. relating to furze in Connacht. "
