He praises the Rev. Close in particular, who also acts as Treasurer of the RIA. He outlines his own academic achievements and laments the lack of support. "No money is to be maintained by Irish except by pretenders and humbugs, and then only by swindling". He complains of the resources available to the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language and their lack of work. The amalgamation would suit the Gaelic Union as it would give them access to money for publications, but there are those within the Society who oppose them.

Postcard from Mr. R O Mulrenin, St. Anne's Hill, Cork, to Mr. S.J. Barrett, Meelick House, Drumsna, County Leitrim, telling him that he is getting treatment for his rheumatic gout for ten days. He expects issue 31 of the Journal to be posted within a few days.

Postcard from Mr. R O Mulrenin, 17 Trinity College, Dublin, to Stephen Barrett, telling him that his first exercises are fine. He tells Stephen that he is "too diffident of your own powers". Discusses Irish pronunciation with him and tells him to proceed with the learning.

"Correspondence between John Fleming, editor of ""the Gaelic Journal"" and Stephen Barrett, mainly in relation to his subscription to the journal as well as his learning of Irish. Fleming was a native of Clonea, near Carrick-on-Suir and was a native Irish speaker. He taught at Rathgormack National School for about twenty years before taking over the editorship of the ""Gaelic Journal"" in 1882, remaining as editor until his death in 1895. He also taught Irish to a number of people who were to become leading figures in the Gaelic League, including Stiophán Bairéad."

Letter from John Fleming, 17 Carlisle St., South Circular Rd., Dublin, to Stephen Barrett stating that the publisher of the "Gaelic Journal" is Dollard of Carlisle St. He then goes on to outline the importance of getting children taught through Irish in the schools. "Let this step be once taken, and the innate love of the mother tongue will enkindle in the breasts of our people from day to day". In particular, he feels that the Irish speaking classes are of good use.

Letter from John Fleming, 17 Carlisle St., South Circular Rd., Dublin, to Stephen Barrett. He begins by stating that while he would welcome amalgamation with the other society, that this would not happen for a number of reasons. He complains that the person in charge of publications has no Irish, and that their publications are full of errors. He puts delays in the publication of the "Gaelic Journal" down to the illness of Mr. O'Mulrenin (incipient bronchitis) and that the next issue of the journal (no. 24) would be out soon. He ends by saying "I shall feel it a pleasure to correspond with you at any time".

He states that when he has more time that he would write in detail on future plans.
