Scope and content

Documents pertaining to archaeological survey work performed by Markus Casey for Tom O'Keeffe on a site in Lydacan, Claregalway he wished to build upon. The site formerly incorporated a late medieval tower house (Lydacan House) that was largely demolished in 1992 by a previous landowner, and had been annotated as early as 1778 as the site of a ruined castle, which the current landowner was unaware of and created a delay in the development of the site. Casey recommends a programme of mitigatory measures to mitigate any possible interference with medieval remains that the proposed development might incur.
Includes:
-draft of the completed report (24 November 2000, 3pp, see P164/1/1/13 for physical copy with addenda);
-invoice from Casey to O'Keeffe (24 November 2000, 1p);
-letter from Casey to the Licensing Section of the National Monuments & Historic Properties Service applying for a licence to excavate and monitor development at Lydacan and explaining the history of the site (5 December 2000, 2pp)
-letter from Casey to the Licensing Section of the National Monuments & Historic Properties Service stating that the problems associated with the purchase of the Lydacan site have been resolved and archaeological testing will begin the following week (5 September 2001, 1p)
