Letter to John McGahern signed Tom[Jordan] with an address at '56 Ennafort Park'; Jordan recounts his experience of being defrocked, he writes ' 'Twas this week 1945 I was "Defrocked." vows were annual to the age of 25 and then final vows once and for all the following Xmas morning. I had a row with my boss the previous year , had been transferred to New Ross under an Old Campaigner but (not as the authorities at G.H.Q. had hoped') I got on very well with him.' This account is reflected in the short story The Recruiting Officer .
