John O'Leary (23 July 1830 – 16 March 1907[1]) was an Irish separatist and a leading Fenian. He studied both law and medicine but did not take a degree and for his involvement in the Irish Republican Brotherhood he was imprisoned in England in 1865, released into exile in France in 1871, and returned to Ireland in 1885, settling in Dublin.
Donated to the James Hardiman Library by Prof TP O'Neill, 1981.

Letter from John O'Leary, 17 Temple Street [Dublin] to Miss Mulligan thanking her for her letter and her kind words about his visit. He agrees with her that he has concerns for the "rising generation", but comments that he is looking forward to "... a new nation with other Davises and Mitchells". He ends by asking her if she would do a lecture tour herself?
