Letter to Father Hayes from John Rice, Los Angeles, who has returned from a 3-month trip to Ireland. Rice laments the condition of Irish historic ruins, and suggests that signs leading to historic ruins in Ireland should be placed around the country and that attendants should be on duty to conduct visitors over the ruins for a small fee. Rice also notes an interview he had with Éamon de Valera regarding the continued pegging of the Irish and British pounds and asked 'why Ireland insisted on calling itself a free Republic when its currency was controlled by an outside country.' Rice suggests an independent currency based upon Ireland's physical assets. [See also P134/12/1/2/10/128].
