Letter to Canon Hayes from John Moher, Teachta Dála for Fianna Fáil, Cork East, writing from Mitchelstown. Moher writes that his recent three-hour speech in the Dáil was not intended as an attack on Muintir na Tíre, and thanks Canon Hayes for his letter of 28 April 'and the magnanimous gesture contained therein. It is the only civil letter on my reference to M.N.T. of the many I have received.' He states that when Canon Hayes reads the text of the speech he will see it was neither an attack on Muintir na Tíre or an attempt to get publicity. Moher writes that he is prepared to submit any of his contributions made in the Dáil regarding Irish agriculture to any session of Muintir na Tíre. He states that his stance is not against Muintir na Tíre but against state control of advisory services, and that he is convinced Muintir na Tíre is becoming a smoke screen by becoming 'the sponsoring body for a service controlled by Merrion St.' Moher writes that 'I fail to see how you can reconcile this present development.' He notes that Éamon de Valera has spoken to him and asked him to avoid further controversy on this issue, and that it may force him to leave Fianna Fáil and the Dáil. Moher closes by writing 'I have nothing but the greatest good will, if I hit below the belt, remember I was in the Ring fighting against the odds.'
