Letter from J G Pilcher, Office of Inspector General of Civil Hospitals, NWP and Oudh, Lucknow, to Peter Freyer stating that he did wire Cameron 'but it is surely very selfish to wish an officer to accept half pay merely to oblige you!' He does not agree that Freyer was ill used by not being allowed to return to Moradabad for the few weeks Cameron remains at Benares 'when doing so would have put a family to a double move on your account'. He goes on 'I do not see that you have anything to complain of in your advancement in the Province'. It is not the custom to supersede senior officers and 'you are now above the line of your seniority in the Province which shows that you have been specially favoured'. All officers must submit to the decisions of their senior officers and the Government 'without carping and discontent otherwise their claims will be surely damaged by their own inconsiderate action'.
