Scope and content

Letter to Canon Hayes from Éamon de Valera enclosing a cheque and lamenting that the Irish Independent misconstrued his remarks at Rural Week regarding the tendency of teachers to leave rural parishes for towns as a criticism of teachers rather than a simple statement of facts. De Valera writes, 'When I was leaving a Priest told me he had taken a record of my remarks. I would like to know his name and address so that we could appeal to the record, should a dispute on this matter arise. One teacher, misled I am sure by the heading, wrote to me in an annoyed tone about it. That is but the beginning.'
