Scope and content

Text of a lecture on rural Ireland delivered by Father Hayes at Dublin and Cork during 1938. He states that rural agriculturalists have been relegated to a third class and that a 'stay-on-the-land' movement, not a 'back-to-the-land' movement, is necessary. He stresses that there needs to be an emphasis on rural life and rural education to counteract the 'talking up' of city life. Father Hayes closes by promoting Muintir na Tíre and its upcoming Rural Week in Ardmore, County Waterford ('We shall act as a rural Dáil and rural Ireland will be the object of our deliberations').
