Text of a lecture given by Father Hayes on the role Catholic women and girls can play in public life in line with the call of Pope Pius XII 'not to remain aloof from public life but to go into action, each in her own way to join in stemming the tides which threaten the home.' Father Hayes lauds the role women play in Muintir na Tíre parish councils and hopes that this will lead to 'a formidable number of those Independent lady T.D.'s... ...and let us hope a few lady Ministers of State.' He describes various projects that have been carried out by women's sections of Muintir na Tíre guilds, advocates rural development and electrification as a way to keep women in the countryside, and laments the influence of 'American and English materialism, frivolity, worldliness' in the media which he believes is leading to a loss of Irish patriotism.
