Lecture by Father Hayes originally given at University College Cork on 11 November 1951 under the title 'Whither Ireland'. The lecture was revised and re-titled 'Ireland Today'. The lecture laments the rise of materialism in Ireland in the three decades since independence 'We have not gone on our traditional Christian way of life and instead of being a light to guide others we have followed slavishly the ways of the nations for whom we hoped we would be a guide.' Father Hayes states that 'only by the revival of rural societies that we can get back to vitality' and touts the Muintir na Tíre movement. Includes annotations and corrections.
