Scope and content

Kerby A. Miller's excerpts and abstracts, along with a typed transcript of one letter, of the James Hamill letters, written by Hamill in Dungannon, County Tyrone to his brother, John Hammond, in Hartford, Kansas in 1900-1908.
Per Kerby A. Miller of the first letter in the sequence: 'First communication from Hammond in at least 25 years. Hamill is married to Bridget McKenna, and that indicates (along with other, vaguer clues) that the family is Catholic. This letter is of little interest, except to note the shock and joy that Hamill felt at hearing from his relation after so long a time, during which he had long since assumed that Hammond was dead.'
