Letter from James Elwood, Grange, [Co. Sligo] to Thomas Ormsby of Ballinamore, Co. Mayo, in which he begins - "My father has just now mentioned to me a conversation he had with you, in which he requested your influence with Mrs. Porter towards obtaining a small living now vacant in the neighbourhood and in the gift of her father-in-law [Thomas Lindsey of Hollymount] ... The living consists of three small parishes worth perhaps about £120 per annum, it was separated from the Union of Taunagh, on Mr. Hacket getting a living in the Diocese of Clogher and giving this up in exchange, it is o so little value and situated in so remote a country that very few would accept it ... but a small addition to my income is of consequence to me ... Pray tell Mary [Thomas's daughter-in-law Mary nee Lloyd, wife of Peter Ormsby] all her friends are very well and that James Lloyd saw Peter in Sligo and looking surprisingly well ,,,"
