Materials pertaining to two letters donated to Kerby A. Miller by Alan Kennedy in 1978. Most of the materials pertain to the letter written on 21 August 1860 by Joseph Fitzgerald from Columbus, Ohio, to his cousin also named Joseph. Another letter is written by John Martin from Kilbroney, County Cork to a Father Kenyon in the United States who wishes to emigrate to Australia during the American Civil War. The series includes: transcripts and reproductions of the letters; correspondence between Miller and Kennedy; biographical notes and research on Fitzgerald; correspondence between Miller, Beth Ruffin McIntyre, archival repositories, and Catholic institutions researching Fitzgerald; and photocopies of excerpts from published histories of Columbus, Ohio.
