Material in this subseries consists of correspondence with various government ministers and is arranged chronologically across nine files. G60/39/8/1 consists of correspondence from Seán Mac Maoláin to the Minister for Education (01 Apr 1922) with a report on the use of Irish and the time spent speaking Irish in a selection of schools in Ulster. It also includes other reports on Irish in schools from M Ní [C?] March 1922, Cork. The subsequent eight files (G60/39/8/2-G60/39/8/9) are arranged by decade covering the period 13 May 1942 to 22 Jul 2015.

Correspondence between John Fleming, editor of "the Gaelic Journal" and Stephen Barrett, mainly in relation to his subscription to the journal as well as his learning of Irish. Fleming was a native of Clonea, near Carrick-on-Suir and was a native Irish speaker. He taught at Rathgormack National School for about twenty years before taking over the editorship of the "Gaelic Journal" in 1882, remaining as editor until his death in 1895. He also taught Irish to a number of people who were to become leading figures in the Gaelic League, including Stiophán Bairéad.
