Correspondence between Tim Robinson and Paul Keegan, the Classics Editor at Penguin. Includes some copies of Robinson's letters, cover letters that accompany several drafts (P120/3/1/4/3-7).

The correspondence begins 8 Mar 1989 with Keegan asking Robinson if he would consider editing Synge's 'The Aran Islands' for Penguin Classics, including choosing what version of the text should be used, writing a note on the text, an introduction. Subsequent correspondence includes the contract, discusses the role of Yeats and Lady Gregory and Synge's phonetic use of the Irish language (27 Feb-15 Apr 1991), a letter from Bernard Meehan, Keeper of Manuscripts at Trinity College Library on the subject of using quotations from Synge's notebooks (29 May 1991), and several letters enclosing corrections. Meehan sends Robinson a blurb on the text on 11 Jul 1991, and a copy of Robinson's reply encloses an alternative, finding the Yeats quote they chose slightly disconnected from his own interpretation (22 Jul 1991). Letter from Rebecca Salt, Press Officer with Penguin Books writing with publication details (19 Feb 1991).

Correspondence between Robinson and Samuel Brussell of Anatolia Editions, Paris based publishers, advising they would soon publish J M Synge's 'The Aran Islands' with part of Robinson's introduction. Correspondence between 7 Sep 1995 and 8 Feb 1996 discussing terms. Copies of Robinson's replies are included.
