Part of Academic

Materials pertaining to the case filed by A. Baki Oğuz against the Republic of Turkey with the European Commission of Human Rights (application number 26145/95, referred to internally within the Kurdish Litigation Project as Case 112 and assigned to Françoise Hampson as lead) regarding the January 1994 imprisonment and subsequent torture of his brother Hacı Oğuz, who was the president of the Siirt Branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD). Hacı Oğuz was charged with assisting and providing shelter to members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK); he refuted the charges and stated that he had no connection with the PKK. On 23 June 2000, Françoise Hampson and Kevin Boyle withdrew as legal representatives in the case.
Materials in the file include the initial statement made by the Diyarbakır Branch of the İHD to the Kurdistan Human Rights Project (sent 11 July 1994) describing the case; supplementary information on the Oğuz family faxed 12 July 1994 from the İHD; August 1994 fax correspondence between the KHRP and Françoise Hampson pertaining to the case, and Hampson’s 23 June 2000 letter of withdrawal.
