Outward letter book of Professor John E Cairnes, who held the chair of Political Economy at Queen's College Galway at the time. Most of the letters were written at Mill Hill, Hendon, London, and refer to his business interests. Correspondents include his landlord in London, Mr H. Baker, Kilburn Gate, the Manager of the Agra & Masterson Bank Co., Calcutta, and officials of Queen's College Galway. Includes letter to Dr. Moffett, Galway, referring to terms for his appointment in QCG, i.e. giving eight weeks of lectures over two terms (21 Nov 1865). Also letter to H Baker, Kilburn Gate, stating terms of rent, and complaining that Mr Howard's men did not finish the new rooms until February and will pay the additional rent from that date (6 May 1866). Also letter to Mr L Berwick, Galway, writing that he may take up his teaching post with University College London, but only if it is compatible with his residence in Galway (21 June 1866). Also letter to Mr Cochrane, Manager of the Agra & Masterson Bank, Calcutta, expecting to hear from his soon as they have resumed business following the collapse of the Agra Bank (5 Feb 1867).
