Two notebooks that record interviews with individuals and groups, with the name of the interviewee, and their memories. Details such as when they learned to knit, the stitches they knew, what it meant to them economically, and many personal recollections.
The research explores knitting as an important cottage industry and a highly developed craft that descends directly from a Celtic past, both in its elaborate stitches and the oral transmission of knowledge of the stitches. Differences between Inishmore and the two smaller islands are noted. Lists of stitches in both their Irish and English language names, with a handwritten list of sources, printed extracts from published material, and 2 copies of a blank postcard from the Museum of Inishmaan featuring a photograph from 1904.
