The article was published in the Sunday Independent, 19 March 1939, as 'The Flight From the Land: Rural Ireland Is At Last Making Itself Heard!' In the article, Canon Hayes advocates: incentivising early marriages amongst rural workers via dowry houses and family allowances; the introduction of rural bias into the education system; ruralisation along the lines of Mussolini's Italy; and Muintir na Tíre.
