Estate Duty form C-1, account of property chargeable with estate duty on death of Denis St George Daly. A receipt for a payment of £9,738.10.10. was stamped on 28 July 1948 and a repayment of £2,063.13.6. was made on 23 June 1949. Includes pages containing calculations of jointure and portion shares. Also letter from Estate Duty Office, Harrow, England, to ‘Gentlemen’ [Darley, Orpen and McGillycuddy] relating to estate duty to be paid on the ‘slice’ of the whole property, which was charged with the payment of jointure to Rose Zara Daly (23 May 1950).

Letter from Laurence Storey, Aughrim, land agent to G.R. Wade, stating that he has put the heifers on the Bottoms, that the drain in Egan's is nearly done and that he will start on the one by Mrs. Persse's next as directed. He feels that Mr Lynam's report will be before the Board soon, and that he expects it to do fine. He states that Wade has two houses in Aughrim that will unfortunately require ejectments. He states that the land cases will commence on Monday, and he is making all possible arrangements.

Wade, saying he had to get two strangers to work at cutting the rushes at Newcastle, commenting that Mintane only works now when it suits himself. He states that there are good prices at the fair for small cattle, and that the cattle on the Hill can be moved soon.

He feels that the large cattle should sold off. He states that there are twenty heifers and that the springer had been sold off.

He comments that the situation in the country is getting worse. "They would now shoot a man for a pint of porter". He feels that the people before the Land Court will withdraw.

Letter from Laurence Storey, Aughrim, land agent to G.R. Wade, saying that he has put some cattle onto the meadow. He gives details of the work on the ditch with Coffee, saying that it is coming along fine. He comments on further work on Hare's and Handy's borders, commenting that they will have to be well-repaired. He states that the stock at Andress is well, and at Newcastle. He states that Kelly is being very attentive, and that he and his boy are fencing off the bottom of their lands with Minton to keep the cattle in. He does not think that Faughran or Kelly will ask for more wages, but asks him how he should act if they do. He informs him that Handy had eight farms with stock handed up to him the previous day.

He informs him of two "frightful murders" in Loughrea. "They appear determined to shoot before them, in all directions". He tells him about the Handys, saying that Mrs Handy may call to him in Dublin.
