Letter from Peter Ormsby, son, to Thomas Ormsby of Ballinamore, Co. Mayo. From Piers Hill Barracks [Edinburgh] in which he writes "I have this moment received a letter from Adam which mentions his safe arrival in Quebec, having had a very tedious passage of fourteen weeks. I suppose Anthony has told you of our journey here which was very unexpected ... I have done every thing in my power to get out of the army on the 5 spell and half pay but I have not yet been able to accomplish it ... I intend attending the different medical classes here during the winter and so rub up on my Latin and surgery a little and my ideas are if possible after to go to Paris for a few months and then return and sit down fully licensed to kill or cure ... should it be convenient to you to make me some allowance yearly ...
