Transcript of a fragment of an 1846 letter sent by Hugh and Elizabeth Barkley in County Antrim to his Ann Stewart and her husband Adam in Smiths Falls, Canada West. The family in Canada had emigrated, parents and children, in 1834, and rented 200 acres from the influential Sherwood family of Brockville, members of Upper Canada's elite 'Family Compact'. The family was Presbyterian and Tory.
