Scope and content

Reproductions of eight letters, seven of which are written to Howard Hodgkin of the prominent English Quaker family, relating to distress in Ireland during the 1880s. The majority of the letters are from a pair of priests, James McFadden and Bernard Walker, in County Donegal. Also present in the series is a microfilm containing letters sent from emigrants from the west of Ireland whose passages were assisted by English Quaker philanthropist James Hack Tuke [see P155/52/8].
