Scope and content
Materials pertaining to Henry Mulholland, a native of Clones, County Monaghan who emigrated to Canada and made two or three trips back to Ireland to induce migrants to come to North America. The series features a transcript of a letter from Mulholland in New York written to his wife in October 1832 just before his final trip to Ireland. Mulholland did not return to Canada; on 11 May 1833 the vessel on which he was returning struck an iceberg off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and he was unable to obtain a position on the only lifeboat. Also included in the series are newspaper clippings regarding various prominent Irish-Canadians, and a letter from donor Eleanor Reesor providing further information on Mulholland.
