Materials pertaining to the case filed on 26 June 1995 by Hatice Tekdağ against the Republic of Turkey with the European Commission of Human Rights (application no. 27699/95, referred to internally within the Kurdish Litigation Project as Case 199 and assigned to Nicholas Stewart as lead) regarding the disappearance of her husband, Ali Tekdağ, on 13 December 1994. Materials in the file available for viewing include: the application submitted to the Commission, including the statement of the applicant; correspondence sent by Kevin Boyle and Françoise Hampson to the Commission; the applicant’s 8 July 1996 reply to the observations of the Turkish Government; the 22 March 1997 statement of Hatice Tekdağ stating that she had been subject to harassment from security forces due to her application attached to the proposed list of case witnesses; and 1999-2000 correspondence between the Essex team, the European Court of Human Rights, and Philip Leach of the Kurdish Human Rights Project regarding the case (including Boyle and Hampson’s notice of withdrawal as representatives in the case).

All correspondence from the Commission or sent by the Turkish Government to the Commission (including the Commission’s 5 December 1995 statement of case facts), the 25 November 1996 decision of the Commission declaring the application admissible, and all observations of the Government submitted to the Commission (including appended case documents) are closed to access until 1 November 2073.
