Scope and content

Original handwritten draft, typescript (with copy) and telefaxed letter from [Brendan Duddy] to 'a chara' [Martin McGuinness], following up on his paper on 'splitting' and encouraging the republican leadership to be as inclusive as possible in opening a debate; comparing republican splits to those that defeated Labour and the trade unions during the Thatcher years. (The handwritten draft is in the hand of Éamonn Downey who adds that this was written in the aftermath of the Omagh bombing of 15 August - the draft is very close to the faxed text; the typescript copy has markings highlighting passages, made by Brendan Duddy. )
