Handwritten briefing note for Dr. A.J. O’Reilly for a meeting with J[ohn] M[ajor]. He comments that the IRA were the only winners last week, and that the British had had a year to sort Drumcree out but had failed to do so. He suggests that he keep faith with J[ohn] B[ruton]. He emphasises the sense of Catholic betrayal, commenting that Adams and Co. are trying to control things ‘but losing on the streets’. He also suggests that Major should push David Trimble and John Hume for a solution, and that Major should also consider a re-shuffle.
