Born in 1864 in India, he served in the British Medical Corps before transferring into the Bengal Civil Service in 1893. He was later Surgeon-General to the Viceroy, and retired in October 1921. He moved to London where he died in 1940. Married Helen Mabel Trevor on 10th Nov 1900 in Calcutta.
