Scope and content

Seventeen folders containing notes in Grattan Freyer's handwriting relating to lectures he gave in Ireland, the USA and in Europe during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s on Irish writers, Irish history, the political situation in Northern Ireland and three non-Irish writers. These folders include typed notes for helping with the delivery of the lecture, which often indicate where and when the lecture was given. Some notes were written on the back of price lists for Terrybaun Pottery, schedules for lecture tours, letters and other used pages. The folders also include newspaper cuttings, photocopies from books and printed texts and other papers associated with the subject of the folder. The contents of the folders are often in a rather muddled state, with the older papers at the back of the folder. The folders were in two bundles and the two sections correspond with the contents of the two bundles. The first section contains folders on Irish literature and history and the second containing folders on non-Irish literature. The order of the papers within each folder has been left as it was found.
