File of personal letters, postcards and printed material from poet and playwright Seamus Heaney, Dublin, County Wicklow (and US, UK locations, as well as from a transatlantic Concorde) to "cher mâitre" Kilroy. Discussing their academic posts; the way this impinges on the writing process; particular works by Heaney (especially The Cure at Troy and The Burial at Thebes ); Field Day Theatre (see his letter on Kilroy's resignation, 17 June 1992). With praise for Kilroy's work, especially Double Cross , Madame MacAdam , and a radio programme on [Philip] Larkin (October 1990). Allusions to meeting Kilroy at various events, also (summer 1992) in Normandy at a Genet event. Including poem dedicated to Kilroy "Not the one who walks away" (30 October 2006) with photographs of Frank McCourt, Kilroy, Friel, Heaney and Noel Pearson; own printed Christmas cards, one with a special print of poem "The Dark Wood" [1988]. Offering that " Double Cross made me proud and delighted. To go to the theatre in Ireland and not make allowances, intellectual or technical - this in itself is a matter of rejoicing. But to have the unrealized spaces opened up, to have such confidence in giving oneself over to an intelligence sporting itself forments you...It was and is a special occasion." ([31] March 1986)
