Scope and content
File of letters communicated by telefax between Eberhard Spiecker, solicitor, Duisburg, Germany, Brendan Duddy, 'Pony Man' and Bishop Hegarty of Derry. Spiecker doubting that 'Pony Man''s efforts to defuse the situation sufficiently in time for Drumcree will suffice, and offering to hold another conference in Duisburg, with representatives of the most extreme groups; Duddy and 'Pony Man' confirming advice to Spiecker 'to do nothing at this time' concerning Drumcree. Spiecker had enquired about the modus operandi following news from Dublin that the situation in Drumcree was 'dangerous' and had listed three names as representatives for both sides (Republican and Unionist), asking for their agreement.
